Benefits of Clip-On Ultrasonic Flow Meter

Non-Intrusive Measurement

Clip-on ultrasonic flow meters offer a notable advantage with their non-intrusive measurement capability. Unlike other flow meters, they don’t require physical insertion into the pipeline, eliminating contamination and pressure drop risks. The meter’s ultrasonic waves can collect data without direct contact with the substance in question. Their non-intrusive properties make them well-suited for applications involving sensitive or corrosive materials.

Low Maintenance

Clip-on ultrasonic flow meters are inherently durable, thanks largely to their non-invasive nature. Their lack of physical contact with the fluid being measured eliminates the usual wear and tear associated with continuous flow monitoring.

Application Versatility

Ultrasonic flow meters are exceptionally versatile and capable of effectively handling a broad spectrum of flow rates, making them an ideal choice for numerous applications. These reliable devices offer precise and efficient flow measurement solutions for many industries, including water treatment, chemical processing, and measurement of gases.

High Accuracy and Reliability

No matter the fluids you need to measure, accuracy and precision play an influential role in optimizing fluid transportation and containment. Ultrasonic flow meters provide precise flow velocity measurements with minimal error, ensuring accurate data for your applications.

Application of Clip-On Ultrasonic Flow Meter

HVAC Commissioning (water side)

All HVAC systems (heating and cooling systems) require several checks during the commissioning stage before the final hand-over. Our portable clip-on ultrasonic flow meters can help with primary and secondary pump output flow verification (GPM), network leak detection, bypass-valve control check, hydraulic balancing, and much more.

Flowmeter Verification

In-line flow meters such as turbine or electromagnetic flowmeters suffer from calibration drift over time due to several factors. This drift causes tremendous measurement errors, which affects the efficiency of your process or quality of the final product.

Energy Audits

Our portable clip-on ultrasonic flow meters are equipped with two temperature inputs to measure supply and return temperatures in a heating or cooling system. The flow meters are supplied with a set of (optional) matched clamp-on temperature sensors, just like the flow transducers, to avoid pipe cutting. The flow meters provide energy consumption (BTU or kWh) using the temperature and flow measurements.

Leak Detection

Our clip-on ultrasonic flow meter is also an ideal solution for water leak detection in network pipes. For instance, this Clamp-on Ultrasonic Flow Meter can sense liquid velocities down to ±0.03 ft/s so even small movement in water at low-peak times can be precisely detected.

Network Metering

Water utility companies and district cooling plants have an extensive water pipe network (underground and above ground). During the design phase a lot of these pipelines are not provided with critical metering points that are required for proper measurement and control of the infrastructure.

FAQ

Q: How accurate is the clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter?

A: Ultrasonic clamp-on meters are inherently accurate with an impressive accuracy of reading of ±0.5% and a repeatability performance of ±0.2%.

Q: What is the principle of clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter?

A: Here's how it works: Sound Wave Transmission: The clamp-on flow meter consists of two ultrasonic transducers—one acts as a transmitter, and the other as a receiver. The transmitter sends ultrasonic sound waves through the pipe or tube wall and into the flowing liquid.

Q: What is the straight length requirement for ultrasonic flow meter?

A: Typically, flowmeter manufacturer's specify a minimum of 10 to 15 diameters of straight pipe. This means that for a 4″ diameter pipe, you would need 10 x 4 = 40″ of straight pipe, or for a 2″ pipe you would need 10 x 2 = 20″ of straight pipe. However, for more severe flow distortions, you may require more.

Q: Is an ultrasonic flowmeter accurate?

A: Ultrasonic flowmeters are highly accurate, with typical errors of less than 1% of the actual flow rate. This is because the ultrasonic signal is not affected by the characteristics of the fluid being measured, and the measurement is not much affected by the presence of particles or bubbles in the fluid.

Q: How do you calibrate an ultrasonic flow meter?

A: Ultrasonic meter calibration is performed by placing a flow standard in line with the flow meter, precisely measuring the rate of flow in accordance with nationally recognized standards.
